Whaea Ruth's First 'lockdown' Screen Castify

I would like to challenge you all to run AT LEAST 3 times a week. I'll add Pilates, HIIT Training Ab and Butt training videos to this site. I would love it if you post when you have done a training and what your progress is. Happy training everyone.

Beginner's Running Guide    Sorry this site has ads but ignore and look for the helpful advice. I think I'm going to have to start (re-start) at this level

Reflecting on Your Leadership with 9M Touch (first lesson)

You were superb leaders in this lesson with 9M!!

However,I attribute this successful leadership,in part to the collaborative way you planned the lesson the day before. Collaboratively, you worked as a competent and committed group of individuals to:

  • Group yourselves into leadership 'teams' of three, ensuring that each team had at least, one person who knew the skills of the sport well.
  • You had used the class list to divide the students into three teams, which saved time and ensured each student knew they 'belonged'(inclusiveness) from the very start.
  • Each of you knew you had a part to play in leading your group to enjoyment and learning in the lesson(individual responsibility) so could step up to that task/role without hesitation.
The consequence of such clear preparation you were able to work together toward your collective vision (involvement, contribution) In effect,I witnessed interdependence
I saw/heard:
  • Two of you get the gear
  • One person call the whole class and explain who you were and what you were planning to do
  • One person initiate the naming of teams, after the three team leaders introduced themselves.
  • How you gathered your learners together immediately in their teams and got them moving whilst you learnt their names (using various methods) which is great for establishing relationships.
  • Whilst one person communicated the drills, the two other leaders supported the drills by demonstrating and giving individual feedback and feed forward to learners.
From beginning to end the lesson was 'packed' with wonderful interactions which captivated your followers and kept them (happily) engaged in learning. I was so proud of each and everyone of you!!!!

So, now what I would like from you is considered reflections on the following:

  1. What interpersonal skills did you utilise over the course of the lesson?
  2. Which 'style(s) did you use and why?
  3. What philosophies/principles are you developing regarding leadership?

Drawing Conclusions From An Observation

Today you observed 2 students participating in a Volleyball lesson, led by an 'expert' Volleyball coach.
In today's blog I would like you to draw coherent and insightful conclusions about both students and the leadership style being applied from the evidence you collected over that 12 minute observation. The following prompts could help you organise and communicate your conclusions.
1. Using the Situational Leadership (SL) model posited be Hersey&Blanchard, make judgements (draw conclusions) about the maturity levels of each of your students. Remember to explain the basis upon which you made those judgements. Include evidence where appropriate.

2. Again, apply the SL model to explain and draw conclusions about the leadership you observed being applied. Remember to explain the basis upon which you made those judgements. Include evidence where appropriate.

3. Do you think the style suited your student? Explain your answer.

I found these explanations on the internet as an alternative learning resource.

Seeking Situational Leadership(SL)

It is commonly believed that adaptability has to be a strong attribute of a Situational Leadership. Over the next week:
1.I would like you to seek out the 'best' article or literature you can find online and post a link to that site so your peers can view it.
Then I would like you to summarise what you learnt from that article

Reflecting on a Collaborative Experience and Future Use of CL

On Friday you set up and participated in your collaborative circuit. You were not led by a teacher. Instead you and your peers had to do everything from start to finish. So, you definitely were 'equal' in status.
1.Were you 'equal' in contribution? Do you have to be for the circuit to be a successful collaboration?
2. Now that you had the experience of making your individual contribution to creating and implementing a fitness circuit I would like to know what further understandings/ideas or opinions you have about collaborative leadership in a physical activity context.

Read the following articles and blogs then respond to question 3
Evolution of Leadership in Professional Sport
Why is Collaborative Leadership Important

3. If you were asked to coach a Y8 team in a sport you have lots of expertise and experience in eg Touch,Soccer, Netball, could you, realistically, use CL? Explain why/why not.

Collaboratively Designing a Circuit

You will be using collaborative leadership to design a circuit  so the power is shared
throughout the group and each team member takes on responsibilities to conclude
the task successfully.

Please open the following and collaborate to complete.
Collaborative Planning Doc

Then respond to the following prompts.
1. What station are you setting up tomorrow. Who decided that? Did you feel you had 'a voice' in the decision-making? Elaborate upon your answer.
2. What other principles/characteristics from Collaborative Leadership were present in today's  design meeting? (you will need to consult the literature)

3. Were there any principles/characteristics that were missing that could have/should have been present?

Collaborative Leadership

Think of using collaborative leadership in a situation where there are no people who are in charge because there is a task that is too complex for one person so the power is shared throughout a group and they take on responsibilities to conclude the task successfully.
